KLANG: Selangor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has issued compounds against 24 traders this month for failure to comply with the festive season's price control in conjunction with Deepavali.

Its officer Mohd Nor Iskandar said 20 of them were fined for not displaying the "pink plates" on controlled goods, which is an offence under the law.

Four other traders, he said had failed to display prices for the goods sold at their premises.

"All traders selling items that come under the controlled price list must display the pink plates, this is so that consumers will know that the price is under (government's) control.

"So far, during our 10-day operation in conjunction with Deepavali, we found that most of those who failed to display the "pink plates" are first time offenders.

"For repeat offenders, higher amount of fine will be imposed on them," he said during checks at Pasar Besar Klang, here on Sunday.

Nor said a total of 3,540 premises have been checked throughout the operation, which included grocery shops and wholesale dealers.
