SHAH ALAM: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) gave too much focus on improving the lives of rural community at the expense of urban dwellers in the past, said its chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said this contributed to its dismal performance in the urban constituencies in the last general election in 2013.

"In the rural areas, we made sure that roads were paved and maintained for the convenience of the villagers then,” he said when closing the Resident Association Chairman Course for 2016-2018 today.

Noh, who is also Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, said there were urban issues that were not properly addressed in the past.

"One of the examples is elevator problems at People's Housing Projects (PPR) and low-cost apartments.

“Who wouldn't they be angry if they had to face such a problem every day? I would be angry if it happened to me.

“In towns, elevators are like roads which the people use daily,” he said.

Noh said this was why Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak recently agreed to approve a RM300 million allocation to upgrade and maintain PPRs and low-cost apartments in the country.

“He (Najib) wants the people in urban areas to live comfortably," he said.
